BARC SA offers PBMC processing facilities in three different locations – Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
These three facilities are offered to ensure PBMC’s can be extracted within 4 to 6 hours from whole blood, ensuring high cell viability and recovery.
Several PBMC extraction protocols are available and the PBMC team is highly experienced in setting up and executing protocol/study specific extractions. Furthermore, a customized solution for immunogenicity studies is also available.
The PMBC facilities have been expanded over the years to ensure sufficient capacity for phase III vaccine studies. Coupled to this all staff processing PBMC’s are certified by two separate external quality organisations. All three facilities are equipped with liquid nitrogen and -80° freezers ensuring rate cooling best practises are followed. Long term storage occurs at the BARC SA central biobank in Johannesburg.
